Neko Case is singing “You’re right, I’m from nowhere”. This is a sentiment that a lot of immigrants seem to carry; too much for here, too little for there and so on until you realize it’s nowhere and everywhere all at once.
My family was sent to Alberta in the 90s and while I won’t get into too much detail today, Alberta brings complicated feelings. Complicated enough to make a piñata for your friend’s birthday. Neither birthday girl or co piñata maker appear here but I do.

Incidentally, I went to that party, and a guy poured an entire glass of water on my lap on purpose for no reason at all! It was very odd.
