Neko Case is singing “You’re right, I’m from nowhere”. This is a sentiment that a lot of immigrants seem to carry; too much for here, too little for there and so on until you realize it’s nowhere and everywhere all at once.<\/p>\n

My family was sent to Alberta in the 90s and while I won’t get into too much detail today, Alberta brings complicated feelings. Complicated enough to make a pi\u00f1ata for your friend’s birthday. Neither birthday girl or co pi\u00f1ata maker appear here but I do.<\/p>\n

I wanted to fill her up with our hopes and dreams but it was mostly those chocolate gold coins from the dollar store.<\/p>\n
